My current research project deploys a structural social phenomenology to retheorize modernity in relation to contemporary society. My published books include: Gone from the Promised Land: Jonestown in American Cultural History (Transaction Books, 2004) Cultures of Inquiry: From Epistemology to Discourse in Sociohistorical Research (Cambridge University Press, 1999) Apocalypse: From Antiquity to the Empire of Modernity (Polity, 2009), and the co-edited volume, Handbook of Cultural Sociology (Routledge, 2009). My scholarly interests span social theory, epistemology, the sociology of culture, the sociology of religion, apocalyptic social movements, and patrimonialism. This means I am an emeritus professor, but still active, conducting research, working with graduate students, and engaged in professional service, among other pursuits. I am a Research Professor of Sociology at the University of California – Santa Cruz and Davis.

But on an impulse, smitten, if not yet in love, she shed her city self and moved to five hundred acres near Lake Champlain to start a new farm with him. Kristin knew nothing about growing vegetables, let alone raising pigs and cattle and driving horses. When she interviewed a dynamic young farmer, her world changed. Brief Summary of Book: The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon But when The Cabinet turn their attention to Lucy she has to make a choice: fit in and succeed, or stay true to herself. It’s a world of wealth and opportunity, overseen by The Cabinet – a trio of girls who wield power over their classmates, and even their teachers. The smart and well-liked student is not prepared for the new world she’s suddenly propelled into. Laurinda tells the story of Lucy Lam, a 38-year-old woman who still has a lot to learn from her 15-year-old self when she is thrust back to the year she won a scholarship to a prestigious private school. Like Heathers or Mean Girls with a uniquely Australian flavour and featuring an all Asian ensemble cast, this delightful take on the beloved novel stars Fiona Choi ( The Family Law), Gemma Chua-Tran (Netflix's Heartbreak High), Georgina Naidu ( Minnie & Liraz), Chi Nguyen ( The Wilds), Ngoc Phan ( Boy Swallows Universe), Roy Phung ( Jasper Jones) and Jenny Zhou ( Girl, Interpreted) in an incisive, funny study of a woman caught between cultures and class. Adapting Alice Pung’s award-winning book, writer and comedian Diana Nguyen and director Petra Kalive bring Laurinda’s schoolyard setting to the stage for a fresh and feisty new work. Now, here I am a twenty-two-year-old Black woman, and I’m thinking, “I’m not reading a book about a slave falling in love with her white slave owner!” but something pulled me to read it, and I am so happy I did! The slavery aspect of the book was a part of the world, in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, also known as the Orient from the 15th-19th centuries. Quintin Thaddeus Caine and his gift/slave/servant and eventual wife, Sarah Caine AKA Suga. Scrolling through my Kindle apps bookstore, I came across her book, The Fancy, an antebellum, pre-Civil War historical romance novel. Insecure about my life and where I wanted to go in life and who I wanted to be. I was a struggling full-time college student at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. My first encounter with one of her amazing books was in 2013. Shortly after landing their canoe for the evening on a sandy island near Bratislava in the Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area of Austria-Hungary, the narrator reflects on the river's potency, human qualities, and his own will: Most ominous are the masses of dense, desultory, menacing willows, which "moved of their own will as though alive, and they touched, by some incalculable method, my own keen sense of the horrible." Throughout the story, Blackwood personifies the surrounding environment-river, sun, wind-with powerful and ultimately threatening characteristics. Two friends are midway on a canoe trip down the River Danube. "The Willows" is an example of early modern horror and is connected within the literary tradition of weird fiction. Lovecraft considered it to be the finest supernatural tale in English literature. It is one of Blackwood's best known works and has been influential on a number of later writers. " The Willows" is a novella by English author Algernon Blackwood, originally published as part of his 1907 collection The Listener and Other Stories. Short story by Algernon Blackwood "The Willows" The romance was inexplicable because it was not the central theme and still kept me engrossed, all the while pining for more discussions about literature and pop poetry and everything that had to do with writing. Verity writes poetry, meets a guy named Sash in the best meet-cute scenarios I have come across in recent times (who reminded me of a very special person in my life at the time) and soon, shoots to fame in an unreal way. So, Verity Wolf is a girl who lives in a bookstore with her grandfather, Pop, and has a best friend named Jenna, who is fictional for a reason because I haven’t encountered any person that genuine in my life, with respect to friendship. But then a point came where I discovered that the protagonist is a Piscean and I lost it because I absolutely had to write about the book I gave up extremely important daily routines for! So I did not post excerpts from the story on nor did I pause to jot down my feelings in the midst of reading to be compiled into a book review. It seemed like a story that was written for me and I did not want to share the overwhelming rush of feelings I felt with the rest of the world. When I lay my hands on Lang Leav’s second non-poetry book, I wanted to keep it a secret because I was hooked right from the start. Off the field the 'Boys were a dysfunctional circus, fueled by ego, sex, drugs, and jaw-dropping excess. Led by Emmitt Smith, the charismatic Deion "Prime Time" Sanders, Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin-and lorded over by swashbuckling, power-hungry owner Jerry Jones and his two hard-living coaches, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer-the Cowboys seemed indomitable on the football field throughout the 1990s.
